Liposuction is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that removes fat from the body through a blunt tube called a cannula. There are modified techniques such as tumescent liposuction that have been developed to enhance the quality of the procedure.

Tumescent liposuction is offered by Dr. Tuesday Bigelow and is different from standard suction-assisted liposuction in a few ways. Tumescent liposuction involves injected a large amount of diluted lidocaine, a local anesthetic, in the fat layer to swell and firm the tissue. This technique removes the need for sedation and is reportedly less painful. Moreover, this type of liposuction employed microcannulas, which are smaller and offer a more controlled removal of fat.
